Update | Road Trip Tips & Picks: Part 1

Ah! It’s been so long since my last post. Mark and I have been seriously busy these past few weeks as we wrapped production on Frankenstein: Heart of a champion, our most recent project that was conceived and created by wonderful friends and a talented crew. (Check the hashtag! #frankensteinheartofachampion).
Now, after spending nearly six months in the Pittsburgh area, we’re headed out this Saturday for what will be the next on our ever-growing list of adventures.
I’ll be counting down the days by sharing my tips, picks, and assorted road trip thoughts. I’m kicking this off with a rambling list of my beauty essentials. Twelve in all, below are the only beauty products I bring with me on trips for an effortless look that stays put all day.

1. NYX – Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer in Porcelain
With buildable coverage and a smooth, velvety cream, this concealer works triple time to brighten, correct, and stay put.

2. NYX – Wonder Pencil in Light
Drove ’til the wee hours of the morning? Stay bright eyed and bushy tailed with one of my all-time favorite highlighters. Use it in your waterline, around your lips, across your brow bone, around your nose, go crazy!

3. Benefit – Dallas
Being stuffed up in a car, getting less than adequate sleep –  it’s all a part of the beautiful travel experience. Dust this semi-sheer illuminating powder all over or just on the apples of your cheeks to keep yourself all glowy and fresh-faced. If you can find it, Benefit’s Georgia is a fantastic alternative, too.

4. CoverGirl – Outlast Lipstain in Flirty Nude
Nothing is worse than a lipstain that fades all weird, am I right? When you’ve got a killer nude like this one, you’ll want it to last as long as possible. Lucky for you, this little lippie will stay on you for hours, and its water based formula promotes an even fade, so no patchiness or harsh lines.

5. Marc Jacobs – Daisy Rollerball Perfume
Ditch the breakable, bulky perfume bottles and reach for their travel-sized counterparts. Winter road trips can get a little stuffy. To fight this, I like to keep my travel scents fresh and bright. Look for a perfume with clean citrus and floral notes (grapefruit, jasmine).

6. C.O. Bigelow – Rose Salve
When I travel I have an annoying tendency to overpack and lose things. So when I find products I like that are both inexpensive and multipurpose, they are the first things in my bag. This miracle balm is so much more than you could wish for. Rub it on your lips, your cuticles, your elbows, anywhere that might need some sweet hydration.

7. Elizabeth Arden – Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara
A sultry mascara, this little baby thickens and lengthens while fortifying your natural lash. Yay!

8. E.L.F. – Eyebrow Kit in Medium
Another great multipurpose product. This duo works flawlessly to fill and define brows, but its magical properties don’t stop there. The medium brown powder has just enough pigment to add neutral matte goodness to your eyes. Try it all over your lids or in your crease, and across your bottom lash line for a warm, natural glow. Use the gel to lightly contour for subtle definition and blend your way to cheekbone heaven.

9. Urban Decay – 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Delinquent
UD’s super soft, ultra-pigmented pencils all stay put and pack fabulous punches, but I like Delinquent’s deep purple best for my green eyes. Deep End is a great pick for a little natural smokiness, too. No fading, no running, no smudging – perfect for long days.

10. Ole Henrikson – Invigorating Night Gel
A fresh, tingly face gel that will wake you up, night or day. Light enough not to exacerbate any travel oiliness. Put it on before bed or beneath makeup in the morning.

11. Urban Decay – All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
One and done. Do your makeup in the morning, spritz it with this elixir of life, and you’re good to go for an entire day of traveling. Keep everything where it needs to be, despite open windows, pit stops, and naps.

12. Sally Hansen – Miracle Gel
Miracle, indeed. Paint one of Sally Hansen’s gel colors (Bare Dare is my favorite) beneath this hardcore topcoat, then sit back and let them do their thing. With a formula that’s activated over time by the sun’s UV rays, your nails will stay glossy and perfect for your entire trip, come what may.

Still some space?

13. Big Sexy Hair – Volumizing Dry Shampoo
A full size bottle of this sweet smelling dry shampoo is still on the smaller end, perfect stashing in a backpack or purse. It’s easily distributed, volumizing formula is key to effortlessly refreshing fabulous hair in the face of bad weather or delayed washes.

14. Olay – Wipe Out Refreshing Makeup Remover Wipes
Get the grime of the road off that pretty face of yours! Slim packaging fits easily in a backpack, purse, or car door.
