Retro Shift Dress |Art Deco Poncho

A few months ago I was a part of a photography workshop. It was held in this incredible Victorian home, tucked away innocently in a less than savory neighborhood. I walk in the door and there’s this rack of unbelievable wardrobe lovingly curated by LA based Recycle 2 Riches. It’s got some mod, some modern, and a smattering of killer pieces from all the eras in between. Alright, I’m feeling this.

Hey, what’s up? | Fall Boho with Livin’ Freely and RICA Boutique

Well. It’s been like a year since I’ve paid attention to this. I really regret that.
So much has happened over the past several months. A handful of films, some great trips, and the little baby plunge into my fledgling, part-time modeling career. I’ve been so fortunate to have been a part of oodles of really great shoots with super talented creatives and some very cool brands. I don’t often share more than one or two shots from any given shoot on social media, and that’s a shame. A damn shame, I tell you! So, in efforts to bring myself up to speed, I’ll be sharing a lot of my past images along with more recent ones. This is the first set from a lookbook shot a week or two ago for Livin’ Freely | Rica Boutique, and is part of a larger Glamping inspired lookbook by the cool kids over at B.Rose. I truly loved shooting this.

So without further ado, here are some words about it all.

platform party

And I’m home.
It took a minute, but I’m finally settling back in. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing it is to be back in some mother lovin’ heat. All I want to do is wear tiny, little flowy things and lie in the sun. And it’s that exact notion that inspired this most recent number.
While gone, I had a hole in my heart the size of these thrifted boots, so as soon as I was back I could barely wait to slip my feet into these little guys. A floral maxi and a deconstructed vintage tee play on the rad, retro party that these beautiful platforms are, while a wide brim fedora makes me feel super cool and mysterious.

Gray Scale

Not too long ago I received this Spiked Punch Steve Madden set from Cejon Accessories. It’s a three piece deal – hat, gloves, and snood (not pictured) –  and I’d like to go on record and say that now that it’s begun dropping into the teens (kill me), I’ve loved having such a thick, soft set to keep me warm and bundled. Black jeans, a chunky silver necklace, and a lightly structured pea coat balance out the casual coziness of this dreamy, lounge-all-day trapeze thermal. Hunter inspired wellies finish it all off functionally.

Moody Blues

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetHi, I’m Haylie, new on the Dainty Desperado team! Today was a weird day – started off a little overcast, then got extremely hot. Mind you it’s October in San Diego, CA- it SHOULD be more chilly (well at least for us spoiled San Diegans anything below 70 is cold lol). I paired my new Vans Skater Dress with Some Opaque Lace Thigh Highs & black Wedges to wear to work in the Office. When I got off work I added the floppy hat & sunnies later in the day- it got to be 88 degrees! I accessorized with this cute little dinosaur choker necklace(my best friend made it & is selling similar ones online, check the link below), and I almost never leave the house without my 2 rings that my mom gave me for Christmas one year. (Not shown, but I traded my wedges for some Black on Black Vans KVD flats to wear to work at Vans later that night.)

Autumn Tribal

If I had my way, I’d be a desert dweller. A full-blown desert weirdo, complete with feathers and dream catchers, maybe funky art on the boulders outside my dream yurt – the whole shebang. I’ve held a fascination with arid climates and a deep love for things southwestern or Native American for as long as I can remember. So let’s suffice it to say that I’m absolutely thrilled to own such a badass tribal coat. BB Dakota has always created really great outerwear, a legacy that I believe to have lived on in this little number. I mean look at it! Pleasantly oversized, a killer print, and quality craftsmanship? All I want to do is cozy up in it, perhaps surrounded by succulents and cacti, and peacefully drift off to coat heaven.
While I didn’t rock this piece en route to a desert oasis, I did incorporate my vintage GAP shorts and GoJane combat boots to help create an air of vagabond-y-ness (Not a word. Totally should be). I accessorized with pointelle knee socks, and styled everything up with a metallic knit sweater for the slightest touch of glam.

summer to fall transitional series | one

Well jeeze. It’s been two months since my first, and last post. I’ve been so wonderfully busy since that inaugural 4th of July look. I slept roadside as the puppy, the man, and I drove across country, we made the semi-permanent move to Pittsburgh, and spent over three weeks literally living in a movie set, and every second has been fabulous.  Now it’s nearly fall and things have finally started to slow down a little bit. While I couldn’t be more excited to experience actual seasons (!!!!), it totally sucks to see summer go so soon. Fortunately, September is that great point where I can transition my wardrobe and I can hang on to some of my light, breezy summer clothes I never had the chance to write about, while still indulging in all the autumn coziness. I’m pretty excited about this and doubt I can limit myself to just one look, so I’ll be putting together a series over the next week or so. Stay tuned!

I decided to style a sundress I picked up on one of my most recent shopping trips. I love sun dresses; they’re easy, and effortless, and above all, VERSATILE. To transition your dresses into fall, try some of my options. This floral slip dress has such a summery daisy thing going on, I love it, but its darker tones makes pairing it with more season-appropriate pieces foolproof. Add layers to your dress to accommodate the changing weather. Go with a patterned t-shirt like I did, or a blouse in a bold color. Next, try throwing new fabrics into the mix. Think denim or leather outerwear. Cozy it up with some knit socks or a beanie, both of which are super great at jazzing up most other summer pieces. I roughed up the edges with a good pair of combat boots, but your compatible shoe options for this outfit are infinite (sandals, flats, cowboy boots, whatevs), so you do you, booboo. Top it off with a statement necklace, or a scarf if it’s nippy, and you’re officially a little ray of autumnal sunshine.
